POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
Political correctness is a dangerous and rampant disease that is enforcing cultural-left group think and changing the English language. Gone are the days when we could have robust debate about controversial issues and when “identity politics and “victimhood” had yet to be invented.
As George Orwell details in 1984, one of the most effective strategies used by totalitarian dictatorships to maintain power is to control language and how citizens think and communicate. In Orwell’s novel Big Brother argues “War is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength”.
And Orwell best sums up the dangers of PC language when he argues “The implied objective of this line of thought is a nightmare world in which the Leader, or some ruling clique, controls not only the future but the past … If he says that two and two are five — well, two and two are five. This prospect frightens me much more than bombs”.
